"When I think of Gordie I cannot help but think of not only his success on the fields he has walked but also his significance in life and the lives of those he has touched. It is truly a privilege to coach with Gordie, but also to know him and call him a friend. Significance defined is: the quality of having meaning, being relevant or "special". Living your life in such a way as to really make an enduring impact on people, places or things. It means that the world is a much better place because you were here. that is Gordie Gillespie."

Gordie-ism:" This isn't just war, this is the worst kind of war, this is organized war."
submitted by Mark Moral
I remember vividly the locker room scene in 1978, My senior year, after we had just beat Joliet East 22-0. It was the Friday night before the Lockport game, and after Gordie finished his game recap he said that Lockport was going to be a tough game and that we would hold a practice on Sunday night.
Well Sunday morning, all the papers came out  with a quote from the Lockport coach referring to the JCA/Lockport game"Next Friday's game with Joliet Catholic is going to be war!!" Gordie sat the entire team down and asked if we had read the papers, He started to get fired-up like only Gordie can,he finished his pep-talk with one of his most memorable quotes of all time"This isn't just war, this is the worst kind of war, this is organized war"
